Services
Your switchboard controls your property’s power – getting it right matters.
Outdated, non-compliant switchboards can increase your risk of fires, shocks, and insurance problems.
Even modern switchboards can need replacing if you want to add capacity for high-powered appliances.
That could range from upgrading to an induction cooktop to creating sub-switchboards so you can lease to higher-usage commercial tenants.
Whatever switchboard your property needs, we’ll install and test it to the Pacific Electrical standard – done once, done right.
Porcelain fuses don’t provide the same level of protection as modern, code-compliant circuit breakers and RCBOs.
If your switchboard was installed before 2003, it might have asbestos backing.
Messy, exposed wiring is almost always an indication that your switchboard isn’t up to code.
If your appliances sometimes give you a mild shock, it means you need new RCDs (as well as fault-finding for the cause of the shocks).
Frequently blown fuses should be replaced with breakers or RCBOs (and the cause of the overcurrent should be fixed).
Your current switchboard doesn’t have the space or capacity for new circuits.
Services
An upgraded switchboard means a lower risk of fires and shocks.
An upgrade is an opportunity to add space for extra circuits, which can be needed for new or higher-powered appliances.
An outdated switchboard can affect your insurance and make it difficult to sell or rent your property.

FAQS
The cost of a new switchboard depends on your existing switchboard setup and electrical installation. A standard residential switchboard upgrade on the Gold Coast will likely cost between $1,250 and $1,750.
A switchboard is like your electrical HQ. It distributes electricity from the main supply (overhead power lines) to appliances and fixtures around your property. In some cases, your main switchboard might distribute electricity to sub-switchboards through submains. (A submain is a type of circuit that carries electricity from one switchboard to another.)
Your switchboard also protects your circuits. It allows you to control the supply of electricity to specific circuits, and must feature residual current devices (RCDs), also known as ‘safety switches’, which automatically isolate those circuits if they detect a current leakage.
In short: a compliant, modern switchboard is critical for both your home’s power and your family’s safety.
Yes, we hold a $50,000 consumer protection insurance policy and a $20 million public liability policy, which is above the minimum licence requirements in Queensland. We’re more than happy to provide copies of our policies upon request.
Upgrading a switchboard with an RCD (also known as a ‘safety switch’) and circuit breakers can help you create more space on your switchboard. Residual current circuit breakers (RCBOs) combine the 2 types of protection offered by RCDs and circuit breakers. RCBOs protect against both:
If you’re comfortable with the extra cost of RCBOs, they’re a good idea for any full or partial switchboard upgrade.
Significant switchboard upgrades do generally require strata approval, especially if the switchboard or submains are located on common property. Minor upgrades (such as swapping RCDs for RCBOs on a sub-switchboard located on your property) might not require it. Check your strata by-laws for guidance.
No, we don’t. Your electricity meter isn’t related to your electricity supply. It’s used by your energy company to track how much power you use. They’re responsible for anything meter-related, including upgrades.
